Haliç Sanat – Fener Houses 1 Restoration Project

Haliç Sanat Fener Houses are stone structures originally built along the shores of the Golden Horn, once a densely populated area, to protect valuable belongings from frequent fires. During the large-scale demolitions around the Golden Horn, these stone houses were preserved and have survived to the present day.

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality initiated the restoration of these structures and developed projects to adaptively reuse them as a series of art-focused cultural venues along the Golden Horn.

In the transformation of Fener House No. 1, this broader vision was maintained. The project aimed to preserve the existing structure to the greatest extent possible and reintegrate it into contemporary urban life through minimal intervention, while respecting its historic character and architectural integrity.
